AHA Architects was founded in Mumbai in 2011 on a fairly unfashionable belief: that a house should get better with age, and that almost everything worth doing in a building happens at the junctions nobody photographs.
See the workWe are a studio of eleven — architects, interior designers and a detailing team — working on six to eight commissions at a time. That number is a ceiling, not an ambition. It is the point at which we can still be personally on every site, in every material meeting, and across every drawing that leaves the studio.
Our work sits mostly in private residences and interiors, with a small number of boutique hospitality projects each year. Across all of it, the method is consistent: understand the site properly, settle on one idea, then defend that idea through eighteen months of decisions that would each individually erode it.
We are not stylists, and we are not trend-led. The material palette we return to — lime, stone, timber, unlacquered metal — is chosen because it ages honestly. A brass handle that has darkened under ten years of use is not a maintenance failure. It is the point.
What clients tell us afterwards is rarely about the design. It is about the process: that they always knew where things stood, that the difficult news arrived early, and that the final number resembled the first one. We take that as the real compliment.

One idea, held
We present a position rather than a menu. A project survives eighteen months of compromise only if it began with a single clear idea worth defending.
Materials that age
Lime, stone, timber, unlacquered brass. We choose finishes that improve with use rather than ones that must be protected from it.
Detail as substance
The quality of a home is decided at its junctions. We draw at 1:5 and 1:1 because that is where the money either shows or disappears.
Nothing by surprise
Costs, constraints and bad news arrive early and in writing. Trust is built in the boring updates, not the presentation evenings.
